Continuing Professional Education

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION

AUSTRALIAN MEMBERS ONLY

All Accredited members of the IAAMA are required to provide evidence of continuing professional education (CPE).  CPE is part of our Constitution, listed in the Code of Ethics under clause 12, “Undertake continuing education and increase my aromatherapy skills and professional knowledge whenever possible”.

The objectives of CPE points are for IAAMA members to meet the increasing demands of our industry, the health fund requirements, expectations of our consumers and to self regulate our industry.  CPE points achieve this by continuing to refresh and improve our technical and communicative skills.

CPE points can be achieved by attending events and activities that improve the individual’s practice, professionalism, communication and expertise as an Aromatherapist this includes courses, workshops, lectures etc relevant to your aromatherapy business. Please note lunch breaks are not included in total hours.  At least 50% of your CPE points must be aromatherapy based topics. Other education activities will be recognised if they fit the following categories:  other modalities that relate directly to your health care business; personal development and business management, as they also relate to you as a practitioner.

Accredited members need to accrue a minimum of 20 CPE points per year. Additional points over 20 may be carried forward to the next year.  Points accrued will be for the preceding year (eg points accrued in 2010 are for 2011’s renewal).

Members are required to submit their CPE log sheet with their renewal form each year. Enclosed is an extra log sheet to record your points. Members can supply CPE evidence in the form of a signed log sheet with copies of receipt of purchase, Cd or book reviews or a photocopy of their statement of attendance.

Documentation needs to provide the member’s name, course or lecture details, hours of duration and must be signed by a recognised member of the IAAMA, regional coordinator, council member, IAAMA accredited teacher or the course/workshop facilitator.  Responsibility for recoding CPE activities and the submission of documentation is on the individual member.

If no, or insufficient, documentation is forwarded with your renewal, membership requirements are deemed not met and membership renewal may be denied, if additional information is not supplied when requested.

If you have attended other courses not listed in the Activities that Qualify for IAAMA CPE Points, but believe that course to be relevant to your aromatherapy business please submit such to the IAAMA office for consideration. The course or lecture details must include presenter, topic, hours of duration and relevance to your business.

The IAAMA actively supports the provision of CPE opportunities in the form of local lectures and workshops and encourages the IAAMA Accredited courses to run post-graduate activities. Your regional coordinator will be a resource for events and lectures of relevance and interest to Aromatherapists. If you know of any upcoming events please let your regional coordinator know.
